    Responsibilities

    SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

     

    The Manager, Strategic Sourcing - Direct Materials (Europe), primary responsibilities are to drive down direct material costs across our family of products, develop and improve strategic partnerships with key suppliers, identify and mitigate supplier quality and delivery risks. Position will ensure compliance with company and division-wide procurement strategies, policies, standards and practices.

     

    Develop and manage strategic business relationships and gain a comprehensive understanding of business requirements to ensure stakeholder objectives are in alignment with sourcing strategies. Identify metrics, tools and processes to optimize sourcing, supplier activities and efficiencies and work collaboratively with team members to prioritize and drive implementation. This individual will have direct supervisory responsibility and demonstrated results implementing/executing category management strategies/roadmaps, complex contracts, supplier management programs.

    Responsible for the overall development, engagement and operational success of the purchasing and sourcing team(s) in Europe accountable for direct material spend.

     

    Must be an influential and valued business partner to company's senior leadership community, influencing upwards one or two levels to help shape business thinking and behaviors. Must be comfortable in and understand the workings of a matrix reporting structure.

     

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED

    Reports to the Director, Direct Materials Sourcing. Partners with peers responsible for Direct Material Spend in other geographic regions.

     

    SUPERVISION EXERCISED

    Primary direction of strategic sourcing team.

    Secondary direction of Plant Purchasing Personnel in a Matrix Management Reporting structure.

     

     

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

      • Strategic Direct Material Commodity Management – Create commodity-level strategy and tactics to meet Integra’s overall global supply objectives (i.e., continuity of supply, cost reduction, low cost country sourcing, etc.). Work with globally-matrixed commodity team resources in developing and executing global commodity plans. Serve as a thought leader to the rest of the organization for the strategic sourcing of the categories for which they are responsible.
      • Direct Material Strategic Sourcing/Supply Base Development & Management – Work with site specific resources focused on supplier identification, evaluation, selection, performance management, supply base right-sizing, executive supplier interface and management of single/sole source relationships. Lead formal supplier performance management reviews, where applicable
      • Contract Development and Negotiation for Critical Suppliers of Direct Materials – Develop negotiation plans and execution of global supply and equipment agreements, including pricing road maps, Integra’s standard terms and conditions, procurement best practices, risk mitigation, etc.
      • Provide timely execution of earlier supplier selection into the product development cycle
      • Program Management – Program Leader for Direct Materials key cost reduction programs within the commodity. These programs may include supplier changes, supplier relocations to low cost regions, negotiations, design changes, etc.
      • Direct Material Cost Reduction Reporting – Support the creation of material cost reduction forecasts, including the Annual Plan (AP) with quarterly updates, and the Long Range Plan (LRP) for assigned commodities. Reconcile and report on actuals vs. plan.
      • Inventory Reduction utilizing VMI strategies where appropriate
      • Participate in the annual Strategic Planning process providing direct material procurement strategies as required
      • Develop “Direct Materials - Procurement Centers of Excellence” employing end-to-end Category specific strategies, mapping out the current landscape and designing strategy plan for the near, mid and long-term to better engage internal leaders.
      • Responsible for providing procurement training sessions to the matrix purchasing organization on a periodic basis to develop procurement specialists and grow strategic skills across all sites.
      • Show the internal customer the value of category management through compelling business case development and presenting data to business leaders
      • Enable the business to get the best out of its suppliers by strengthening global partnerships
      • Establish and ensure compliance with company and division-wide purchasing/procurement strategies, policies, standards and practices.
      • Evaluate total spend per category of goods and services and establish sourcing strategies and approaches to simplify processes, reduce risk and uncertainty, and reduce the total cost of ownership
      • Provides financial analyses regarding make versus buy decisions and the cost impact of multiple sourcing, VMI, and design and configuration changes
      • Insures that purchasing metrics are in place and uses them to drive improvements
      • Searches the market for new and alternative ideas, suppliers, processes and products to improve efficiency and profitability.
      • Collaborates with product development groups to make good design and sourcing decisions and to meet project schedules and business plans
      • Exploit local, regional and global synergies
      • Establish efficient procedures for Requests for Proposals (RFP) and initiates quotes and alternatives for capital equipment, goods, and services
      • Establish and lead effective network with suppliers and internal customers; Manages ongoing relationships with key strategic suppliers and the manufacturing and headquarters sites
    • Negotiates major contracts and blanket purchase agreements with critical vendors for goods and services, together with the Law Department and business areas

    Qualifications

    DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

     

    • Degree in Operations, Engineering, Business or a related discipline; Graduate degree preferred
    • 10 - 15 years’ experience in procurement management and strategic sourcing or equivalency
    • Lean or Six Sigma certification is preferred
    • PMA and/or APICS Certification is preferred
    • Medical Device or Pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred
    • Excellent business acumen, including demonstrated abilities and leadership with financial analyses, business case preparation, NPV, ROI, and data-driven approach
    • Ability to work effectively with a variety of cultures, people, styles, and personalities
    • Experience in leading cross-functional teams and project management
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Experience with the details of legal contracts
    • Working knowledge and experience with ERP systems required – preference to those with Oracle ERP experience.
    • Ability to interpret drawings and specifications
